Use The Power Of Your Mind To Lose Weight

Do you still have a skinny picture hidden in the back of your wallet that you pull out whenever you want to relive the "good old days?" Believe it or not, you're on the right track, and we're not just talking about reliving the good old days.

There are more and more diet experts who believe that visualization could be the key to helping you reach your weight loss targets faster. That could mean fitting into your jeans from when you were 20, or just being a healthy person for the first time in your life.

Visualization techniques help people achieve their goals by bringing it one step closer to reality. If done correctly, you begin to live life as if you've already reached your healthy weight, which reinforces good habits.

Picturing yourself healthy is a good way to encourage you to stick it out and adhere to your diet and exercise plan. You have something to look forward to and you know what it will feel like once you get there.

Don't let visualization stop with just one image. All your mental faculties are put to work here. You need to think in terms of how it would feel to lose a great amount of weight, and not just how you would look in a new golfing attire, new dress, or whatnot.

You don't need to pay any extra cash or make drastic adjustments to your schedule - visualization can be done any time and anywhere without anyone knowing what you're up to.

You would want to start by imagining how your future self would look like, minus the extra pounds and at your desired size. Then start imagining yourself at a fancy restaurant, albeit eating a healthy meal - imagine the whole surroundings and not just the food.

What feelings would you have at that very moment? Surely a sense of satisfaction - one that will carry into the present and help you work harder to make that image come to fruition.
If you imagine yourself being seen as if you were another customer, it wouldn't work that well. Instead, visualize the scene from inside your own body - the new you that worked so hard to lose weight and get fit.

Visualization can help you gain a positive outlook towards life and your goals, so use this as a chance to reevaluate your goals if necessary. The process of visualization can be addictive in itself because it brings about a sense of self-confidence and excitement about the future that's in store for you.

This Thanksgiving Day........

ThisThis Thanksgiving Day, let's remember what we truly have to be thankful for. Let's take a good, hard look around us and realize that while we may not have everything we want, what we want is not always what we need.

Let us this Thanksgiving remember the true meaning of this great American holiday as we celebrate with friends and family.

What is a Veteran?

Some veterans bear visible signs of their service: a missing limb, a Jagged scar, a certain look in the eye.
Others may carry the evidence inside them: a pin holding a bone together, A piece of shrapnel in the leg or perhaps another sort of inner steel: The soul's ally forged in the refinery of adversity.

Except in parades, however, the men and women who have kept America safe Wear no badge or emblem. You can't tell a vet just by looking.

What is a vet?
He is the cop on the beat who spent six months in Saudi Arabia sweating two gallons a day making sure the armored personnel carriers didn't run out of fuel.

He is the barroom loudmouth, dumber than five wooden planks, whose overgrown frat-boy behavior is outweighed a hundred times in the cosmic scales by four hours of exquisite bravery near the 38th parallel.

She or he is the nurse who fought against futility and went to sleep sobbing every night for two solid years in Danang.

He is the POW who went away one person and came back another or didn't come back AT ALL.

He is the Quantico drill instructor who has never seen combat but has saved countless lives by turning slouchy, no-account rednecks and gang members into Marines, and teaching them to watch each other's backs.

He is the parade riding Legionnaire who pins on his ribbons and medals with a prosthetic hand.

He is the career quartermaster who watches the ribbons and medals pass him by.

He is the three anonymous heroes in The Tomb Of The Unknowns, whose presence at the Arlington National Cemetery must forever preserve the memory of all the anonymous heroes whose valor remains unrecognized with them on the battlefield or in the ocean's sunless deep.

He is the old guy bagging groceries at the supermarket, aggravatingly slow, who helped liberate a Nazi death camp and who wishes all day long that his wife were still alive to hold him when the nightmares come.

He is an ordinary and yet an extraordinary human being a person who offered some of his life's most vital years in the service of his country, and who sacrificed his ambitions so others would not have to sacrifice theirs.

He is a Soldier, Marine, Sailor or Airman, and also a savior and a sword against the darkness, and he is nothing more than the finest, greatest testimony on behalf of the finest, greatest nation ever known.

So remember each time you see someone who has served our country. When you see one just lean over and say Thank You.

That's all most people need, and in most cases it will mean more than any medals they could have been awarded or were awarded.

Two little words that mean a lot, "THANK YOU".

God Bless Our Veterans!

It's Official

Today was day number 1 of Marathon training. I find it strange that in all training programs day 1 is an off day. Today, I did a light warm up on the elliptical trainer for 15 minutes, and then I did a upper body workout, P90X's Chest, Shoulders and Tri. It was a good intense workout.

I am looking forward speed work tomorrow

Easy Run around Cooper river this afternoon

Running on the path around Cooper River Park is very relaxing.I ran a single loop around the park from the parking lot next tot he track . The Boat house is a great space if you havent seen it yet. The loop around cooper river is 3.65 miles and rather flat, as you cross the bridge at Cuthbert Blvd you get a great view of Center City Philadelphia as seen in the photo below. One of the best things of running Cooper River park besides the views is the deverse activities. Today there were several family reunions and a a large Art Festival which Donna and I are going back to Tomorrow. Another great advantage to Cooper River Park is that my wife can sit and read by the river or go for a walk while I run since she is a non runner, this makes for a great afternoon or morning for both of us. Here is a link to the running route around Cooper River Park. http://www.dailymile.com/routes/34184-walking-route-in-merchantville-nj

What races are you training for? I am looking forward to running Broad Street with my daughter Sarah

I have signed up for the New York City Marathon in 195 days. Last year I was happy just to make through all 5 boroughs and to the finish line in Central Park. This year the goal is to finish in less then 4 hours, 3:50:00 is the target.I also have signed up for the Philadelphia Marathon. But we are just a week away from the fastest and best 10 miler in the world. The Broad Street Run. Friday I will head over to the Linc for the expo to pick up my Packet and hopefully I'll be able to pick up Dante and Sarah's packets as well.

This will be the 3 rd year running Broad Street. I am really looking forward to this years race because I will be running it with my daughter Sarah and my son-in-law Dante. We have run other races together, but nothing as big as Broad street.

I am also running on the RED Team for South Jersey Athletic Club, hopefully me and my team mates can defends last years team victory for Masters.

Tomorrow will be a cross training day of weights concentrating on upper body.

I need to drop 40 plus pounds before November.

I hope to see a lot of friends on Sunday AT THE STARTING AND FINISH LINES. Last year I ran( pardon the pun)into two people on the course that I had no idea would be running the race.

Why do some people look at runners like we are crazy

Tonight I came home from my weekly group run in Haddonfield. Every Wednesday night all year round no matter what the weather is freezing cold January, pouring rain, or 100 degrees in august anywhere from 20 to over 100 runners gather in front of the Haddonfield running company and run the same 6.65 mile course through Haddonfield, Haddon twp and Tavistock.
What struck me tonight was a comment my sister-in-law, Bunnie,. made. Nothing really no different than a similar comments made by my wife, Donna or many other people. Tonight the weather was not quite perfect. 35 degrees, windy and still 10 plus inches of snow on the ground. Back to the comment. as I came back my sister-in-law said" you run in this weather, you’re a die heart". I have heard similar thinks before like you’re crazy it’s too hot outside, it’s too cold, it’s raining, it’s snowing. I never really gave them much thought, just smiled grabbed a water and moved on. But tonight it hit me...the same people that are telling me I am crazy for going for a run because it’s too cold, are going outside for a smoke.

I don't understand why I am crazy for running in various weather conditions in the eyes of these people when they are standing outside shivering puffing on a Marlboro or Virginia Slims
No one understands a runner and our commitment to logging our miles not our spouses, or kids or close friends only another runner can relate.

But why would a smoke think we are crazy for running in the cold while they freeze smoking a cancer stick.

Wednesday, February 10, 2010

No running tonight with all this snow. So I am stuck on the eliptical trainer. I am going to start a new core workout that I found in Bicycling magazine.

I have until March 22 to get my Half Marathon time down to a sub 2 hour. My goal is 1:50:00. That will put me on track for a 75 minute broad street run in May.

The worst part of all this snow is 2 weeks in a row I have been unable to do track work. Just can't replace running on the track.

Tuesday, February 9, 2010

Couldn't sleep last night. Way too much snow still on the ground for my scheduled track workout 6x1000. So I am going to drag myself down stairs and hit the eliptical and the weights.

I feel so much better after a workout, it is just real hard to get started some days. "Some Days are just harder then others"

So off I go

Really getting frustrated, I am beat and I just can't fall asleep. There is nothing worst then not being able to sleep!

Monday, February 8, 2010

Guilty of over indulging on the weekends.

Do you spend all week watching what you eat? Working out religiously? Logging endless miles in all kinds of weather? Only to blow over the week end?

I have logged 40 miles of running in a week. Long runs, speed work, hill work you name it..laced up my running shoes and hit the road in freezing weather, rain, snow winds, early in the morning, late at night. you name it. Dedicated myself to weight training three days a week.

I have logged everything that went into my mouth, tracked every calorie....that is Monday through Friday. From Friday night to Monday morning I seemed to forget all the pain during the week all the sacrafice and went crazy.

Eating way to much and not healthy at all...drinking too much wine and beer...then on moday morning I would weigh more..

why do I do this to myself?

This last weekend was a Prime example.
