Weight loss can be really tricky. Millions of people every year try to stick to a diet and find that after just a week or so they end up cheating on it or giving up, and then they repeat that cycle again a few months later. So why does that happen? Well I think it is the way people approach their diets, and the actual diet programs that they are following, the 3 tips below should help you stick to your diet for the long term so you can get the results you deserve:
Don't Make Your Diet Too Strict: People always want to lose weight as fast as possible, and they think that following a really strict diet which severely limits the amount of calories and the type of foods you can eat, is the best way to do that. The problem with being really restricted is you feel deprived and you want to cheat, but then if you do cheat you will feel really guilty and that makes you give up.
Instead go for a moderate diet which will help you lose weight slowly but consistently, while not making you feel really deprived. You probably don't want to hear me say you should lose weight slower, most people want to lose all their excess weight in 2 weeks and then get off the diet, but if you go back to how you normally eat then that is what made you overweight in the first place! Instead if you follow a less strict diet then you can be on that for months or years until you reach your target weight, by then you will be so used to eating in that way you won't even want to go back to your old eating habits!.
Have Time Off Every Once In A While: This ties in with above, if you are always on a diet and always restricted then you will want to rebel again. When all your friends go out and have a restaurant meal and you are stuck having soup as that is all you are allowed, then it makes you feel bad and you want to get off the diet. Instead, for two Saturdays a month then come off the diet and eat the foods you are not normally allowed to (in moderation) then go back onto the diet on Sunday, you will be able to cope with being on a diet much better that way.
Get A Friend To Go On The Diet With You: Misery really does love company, and sometimes it feels like you are the only person trying to lose weight out of all your friends. So ask around at work to find someone who also wants to lose weight, or ask a friend, and then you have someone to support you when things get tough, to celebrate your successes with, and it will make it harder for you to give up as you would have to tell them you were quitting!
